Visit to President of Serbia Boris Tadic

August 5, 2005

Ministarstvo finansija President SUC Nenad Vukicevic, Vice Presidents Sofija Skoric and Father Irinej on the 5th of August spent an hour in a very interesting and friendly talk with President Tadic and his Advisors. President Tadic explained to us the complicated and tragic issues of abuse of human rights of Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as his position in regards to the innocent victims of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Croatia.

He asked us to understand that as President of Serbia he has an enormously difficult task to represent Serbia abroad in the best possible lights, to build respect for the country and to have ways of communication opened with the outside world.

We expressed our understanding and sympathy for the Serbian people, as well as for the attempts to have democratic reforms done in order to better the economy of the country and to overcome numerous difficulties inherited from the past.

Nenad Vukicevic explained the position and work of the Serbian Unity Congress, especially the activities and successes of the Washington office and our support, as American citizens, of the Caucus in the Congress. We were involved for quite a while talking about Serbian Diaspora in general and US Diaspora Serbs in particular.

We were very pleased that Mr. Tadic obviously was well informed about our organization and that he expressed his respect and the best wishes for SUC future work.

We invited him to join us at the coming Convention and Economic Forum. He pointed out that we can count on his support, but due to the stately obligation he is not able to make a firm promise of coming.

We parted with Mr. Tadic pleased that we had a friendly and complete understanding of our common aspirations for the future of the Serbian people.
